REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry and the Serbian Sports Ministry have agreed to exchange information and develop sports in their communities.

"The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the fields of sports and youth was signed by both countries. Through such cooperation, the two countries will develop sports," assistant deputy of Youth Leadership of the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry, Riyanto, said here on Thursday.

The ministry will visit and observe sports science in Serbia, as part of efforts to learn the techniques and methods applied in the country.

"I do not know the agenda of the Serbian Sports Ministry in Indonesia, because I have not received an official agenda from there," he said.

To develop sports, Riyanto noted, the ministry will promote sports tourism in some areas, such as South Sumatra, Singkawang and Flores.

The development of sports tourism was expected to increase foreign tourists and foreign exchanges.

"Sport tourism is expected to increase foreign exchange and concern the environment," Riyanto remarked.

Furthermore, the ministry will popularize other sports, such as table tennis, women's football, sports for the elderly and others.

"Sports for disable people are also being initiated by the ministry, prior to the 2018 Asian Games," he said.
