Fighting extremism, British Ambassador to promote the concept of Islam Nusantara

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik assess extremism and radicalism is something that can be prevented and resisted together. This will be achieved when all people can appreciate and respect each other's differences.

This was conveyed when attending the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding with the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in tackling extremism and radikalism at the NU headquarters, Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta on  Friday.

According to Moazzam Indonesia is one country that upholds the values ​​and principles of tolerance. "Our Prime Minister also agreed that we can learn from Indonesia (tolerance)," he said.

He also mentioned that the concept of Islam Nusantara as formulated and initiated NU. Namely to uphold the principles of tolerance, respect for differences, as well as combating acts of extreme and radical.

It certainly, Malik said, would show that Islam is not a religion of violence, but full of love and peace. "We hope to learn more about Islam Nusantara and promote this concept to the British public, as well as all citizens of the world," said Malik explained.
