REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW DELHI -- Pro-India parties and separatist groups in Indian-controlled Kashmir have strongly condemned a suicide attack in Lahore city of Pakistan that killed over 70 and wounded 300 others, local media reported on Tuesday.

The pro-India national Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) denounced the suicide bombing and termed the attack as dastardly and inhuman.

"This despicable act is utterly contemptible and highly condemnable," PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said. "My heart goes out to the victims and their families and friends."

The blast, according to reports, was aimed at targeting minority Christian community in Lahore during their celebrations on Easter at a public park on Sunday. However, most of those killed in the blast were Muslims.

Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani has expressed shock and grief over loss of lives in the bomb blast and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.

He asked Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to "identify the terrorists behind it and give them exemplary punishment."

Pakistan is predominantly a Muslim country and Christians constitute 2 percent of the population.

Attacks on minorities, including sectarian violence, have been on rise over past several years in the country.

Reports said Taliban splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack against Christians celebrating Easter.

The blast in Lahore has evoked condemnations from across the world.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on his Pakistani counterpart Sharif and offered his condolences over the terrorist attack.
