REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Democrat Party has yet to decide its candidate to run for Jakarta governor in 2017, secretary of the party's supreme council Amir Syamsuddin said.

The council which has the authority to name gubernatorial candidates according to the party's internal mechanism had not discussed the matter, Amir said in a statement released on Sunday.

"The supreme council has not held a meeting to decide the party's candidate for the Jakarta governor and six other gubernatorial candidates. We will start the process of selecting Jakarta gubernatorial candidate in the ensuing month and recommendations will be made only in September," he said.

He said all candidates who have the potential to run for the Jakarta governor will be considered in the selection process according to the mechanism.

"When the time has come Democrat will announce its decision (on the party's candidate for Jakarta governor)," he added.
