REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,RI, Jakarta -- Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli held talks with a German parliamentary delegation recently to discuss cooperation in the maritime field.

The German parliamentary delegation consisted of parliament member Rolf M. tzenich and his Chief of Staff Mathias Martin, accompanied by German Ambassador to Indonesia George Whitschel, and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Director, Sergio Grassi, the ministry said in a press statement released on Thursday.

Rizal said the meeting was aimed at evaluating cooperation between Indonesia and Germany.

"We also discussed the direction of strategy, which is expected to enhance cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in the maritime, transportation and technology transfer fields," he said.

He went on to say that both nations had also discussed efforts to revitalize state-owned shipping company PT Pelni's ships to realize the concept of the world's maritime axis.

Germany is ready to assist PT Pelni in procuring ships, he said.

"We also discussed a plan to build a small-scale power plant with a capacity of 15 to 20 megawatts (MW). It will use renewable energy, including diesel oil, so in the future Indonesia can serve as a platform to export it to other ASEAN member states," he said.

In the transportation sector, both nations discussed the possibility of developing railway tracks in Indonesia, he said.

In this regard, Germany plans to produce locomotives for narrow railway tracks to meet demand, not only from Indonesia, but also from the rest of the world, he said.
