REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fishery, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, will manage statistical data of the national maritime and fishery sectors, including fishery and aquaculture.

"The FAO considers that Indonesia has implemented the principles of global strategy in data management by optimally using the Census of Agriculture results conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics," Head of Data, Statistics and Information, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fishery, Budi Sulistiyo, said here on Wednesday.

He explained that the agricultural census was developed by the ministry within the survey framework using the methodology in accordance with the characteristics of maritime and fisheries sectors.

In addition, a workshop has also been organized by the Ministry and FAO to introduce the concept of statistical guidelines for strengthening fisheries and aquaculture sectors as part of the framework of census.

"This will be followed by dissemination of ways to use this guideline to improve data collection and statistics on fisheries and aquaculture, particularly small-scale activities," he said.

Earlier, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fishery, Susi Pudjiastuti, affirmed that national self-sufficiency and the target to become an economic power were goals that were in the hands of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fishery.
