US investors target three sectors in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has identified three sectors that attract US investors. Namely the three sectors are the creative economy, cold storage, and health care providers.

Head of BKPM Franky Sibarani said interest in investment coming from these three sectors reached 20 million US dollars. For the creative economy sector, US investors have expressed interest in building an animation studio in Indonesia.

"They consider having a local partner in Batam, Bandung and Yogyakarta," Franky said in a statement on Monday.

According to Franky, three areas were already known to have a lot of talent to the world of animation. Meanwhile interest in investing in cold storage worth 15 million US dollars and the health care sector amounted to 5 million US dollars.

Franky explained to cold storage first phase will be built in Sumbawa and will process the seafood before it is marketed in retail to the US. After Sumbawa, they will also build in Alor, Seram, and Sorong.

"For the health service, the US company will open a health care services, especially weight loss in Lombok and Bintan, Riau Islands," said Franky.

Franky added, the US classified as state marketing investment priorities. In 2015, the value of realized investment reached 893 million US dollars which consisted of 261 projects and is dominated by the mining sector.
