REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that the country still has room to raise its tax ratio, which currently stands at 11 percent of the national gross domestic product (GDP).
"Admittedly, our tax ratio is still very less. So, there is still a room to raise it," President Jokowi said after filling a tax returns form at the tax service outlet of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport here on Thursday.
The tax ratio can be raised by increasing state revenue from individual income tax, corporate income tax, and value added tax, he said.
The head of state expressed hope that state revenues from tax receipts and non-tax receipts will continue.
The president filled the 2015 personal income tax returns form online.
"I think we can fill it online everywhere, without having to come to the tax service office. At home and here we can do it provided there is internet or wi-fi," he said.
He said he had found it difficult to log in his tax account to fill the tax returns form. "I did not know. Maybe there was something wrong. But I could do it after trying to log in three times," he said.
He said all taxpayers can fill their tax returns online.
Given the various facilities provided by the Directorate General of Taxation, he said the number of taxpayers submitting tax returns will increase.
"Everybody can submit it either offline or online. Given the online system, I think it will accelerate the process," he said.
A number of officials, including Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro and Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung were seen witnessing the president filling the tax returns form.
