REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Forests, is rearranging seven national parks to optimize forests and parks as tourist destinations.
"Tropical forests and national parks add more value to the efforts to promote 'Wonderful Indonesia' in terms of nature conservation," Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya, said in a written statement received by Antara here on Tuesday.
He said the seven national parks are Gede Pangrango Mount National Park (West Java), Ujung Kulon National Park (Banten), Baluran National Park (East Java), Seribu Islands National Park (Jakarta), Way Kambas National Park (Lampung), Rinjani National Park (West Nusa Tenggara), and the National Park of Mount Tambora (West Nusa Tenggara).
According to the minister, the national parks are being rearranged as per the principles of sustainable tourism development in accordance with the United Nations World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO's) guidance.
The Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Tachrir Fathoni, said the national parks rearranging program is being conducted by interconnecting three clusters.
The first cluster comprises Lampung and Java, especially West Java and Jakarta, cluster two is East Java, and cluster three is West Nusa Tenggara.
The national parks combine nature, culture, and artificial attractions.
Four strategies will be used to improve the national parks.
First, providing services to visitors by prioritizing conservation aspect and ensuring connectivity between clusters, making these into a single destination.
The second strategy is creating new natural tourist destinations in order to connect natural destinations in the cluster.
Thirdly, the national and nature parks will be developed and integrated as part of a national strategic area (KSN) design.
The fourth strategy will be to realize 3P (public private partnership) mechanism while developing these nature tourist sites.
