REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- The Indonesian Ministry of Agricultural and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (BPN) will immediately issue a ministerial regulation (Permen) on residential ownership by foreign nationals.

"This regulation is being made to clarify the technical rules on residences for foreigners," Minister of Agricultural and Spatial Planning/Head of BPN Ferry Mursyidan Baldan stated while acting as keynote speaker at a national seminar "Shelter for Foreign Residents" here on Friday.

Baldan explained that the upcoming regulation was important to reinforce Government Regulation (PP) No. 103 of 2015 in the areas of rights status, period, and the cost of each house for foreign residents in Indonesia.

The regulation was implemented to counter the difficulties often faced by the Land Deed Official (PPAT) in perceiving PP No. 103 of 2015.

For instance, the cost of a residence in Jakarta, which must be some Rp5-10 billion, would be problematic if applied in other areas.

The regulation to be rolled out would involve a category for foreign nationals' residency cost, which comprised nine groups.

Moreover, it will also set a residential period for foreigners living in Indonesia, including any extension period.

However, Ferry emphasized that foreign nationals were not allowed to own land or buildings in Indonesia.
