REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LUBUK BASUNG -- The government of Agam District in Indonesian Province of West Sumatra will soon develop an additional three tourist sites, as part of an effort to increase tourism in the region, an official stated.
Development of the sites will include Banda Gadang, Ambun Tanai, and Tarusan Kamang in the sub-districts of Tanjung Mutiara, Matur, and Kamang Magek, head of Agam District Culture and Tourism affairs office Hadi Suryadi said here on Thursday.
"The local government has allocated Rp154 million in funding this year," Suryadi pointed out, urging the local community to allow the government to use area lands to develop regional tourism.
According to Suryadi, his office has set the number of tourist arrivals in Agam District at 500,000 visits during 2016, compared to 486,000 tourist visits in 2015.
Agam District is one of several districts in West Sumatra in which dozens of foreign participants in the Tour de Singkarak international bicycle race traveled through during their competition in recent years.
