REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government insists on evaluating the price of premium gasoline and diesel oil in April, despite a steady decline in the global oil prices.
The government has chosen to stick to the rule to evaluate fuel oil prices quarterly, Director General of Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry IGN Wiratmaja said in a statement released on Saturday.
"We remain consistent in following the policy which is in place, " he said.
Under the energy and mineral resources minister's regulation, fuel oil prices are set once every three months and if considered necessary, more than once in this period.
Wiratmaja said the quarterly review of fuel oil prices is based on sufficient study.
"The quarterly review of fuel oil prices has a positive impact on keeping fuel oil prices stable and enable the public and industries to make plans easily," he said.
If the oil prices are set every month, these can fluctuate too frequently, he said.
The government has set the price of premium gasoline and subsidized diesel oil for outside Java and Bali, respectively, at Rp6,950 and Rp5,650 per liter, as of January 5.
Meanwhile, the price of premium gasoline for Java and Bali is set at Rp7,050 per liter. The price refers to the price of gasoline 92 and gas oil in the past three months which averaged US$57.38 and US$54.80 per barrel, respectively.
