REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Moslem Nation Awakening Party (PKB) will send 1,000 clerics to regions across Indonesia to impart counseling and make clear how certain notions were being spread wrongly in the name of Islam.

"The national Congress of PKB decided to send 1,000 clerics to various regions to impart counseling and educate those who were taught wrong concepts so that their religious knowledge is rectified," the party's secretary general, Abdul Kadir Karding, said here on Saturday.

He said a major reason behind the rise in terrorism was poor knowledge about religion and this happened because many people did not have access to right kind of teachers.

"Many of them learn from websites on the internet," he said.

Karding said PKB has many clerics who can be sent to the regions, especially to Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi including Poso.

The clerics may stay in the regions or just visit periodically, he said.

Regarding "Gafatar," he said the problem could not yet be considered resolved unless all the members of the organization, which has been declared as heretic, return home to their families.

"They may not just be left in the shelters. Their religious understanding must also be straightened out so that they return to the correct path and start understanding the religion as taught by the Koran and clerics," he said.
