REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENADARI -- The Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has strengthened humanitarian cooperation with neighboring countries.
The agency's Chief F.H Bambang Soelistyo said on Thursday that humanitarian cooperation has become a significant commitment for all countries.
"No country in the world will shy away from offering humanitarian aid to another country when disasters take place, therefore it is a necessary cooperation," said Bambang.
"Neighboring countries that have not been formally cooperating with the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency include East Timor. While other neighboring countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines have materialized their cooperation," Bambang said.
Each country has its own unique potential vulnerability and it takes a certain method to anticipate or cope with it if any disaster takes place.
The Indonesian territory mostly consists of waters needed to strengthen facilities and human resources in the marine sector.
"Indonesia will continuously improve its aid facilities and training of personnel capabilities in anticipation of handling the disaster," said Bambang.
