REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- All perpetrators of the series of bombings and gunfire, which left at least seven people dead in Jakarta on Thursday, have been neutralized, according to the police.
Metro Jaya Police spokesman M. Iqbal stated that the explosions took place at the Jakarta Theater and a police station near the Sarina shopping center.
"All the perpetrators have been neutralized, and the police are ensuring that Jakarta is secured. So, the people need not panic but can continue with their daily routine activities as usual," Iqbal remarked at the site of explosions.
He noted that Jakarta's alert status is now back to its earlier level.
"Jakarta is now safe. We have been sterilizing the Jakarta Theater building from basement to the top floor," Iqbal reported, adding that a gun battle between the attackers and police took place in the theater located in the same building as a Starbucks cafe that was also attacked.
Iqbal explained that of the seven people killed in the explosions, four were perpetrators, one policeman, and two civilians, including a foreigner.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered security forces to track down the perpetrators and the network behind the attacks.
"I have received reports some time ago regarding the explosions on Thamrin Street in Jakarta," Jokowi stated during a working visit to Cerebon, West Java, on Thursday.
"We express our condolences for those who became victims, but we all also condemn the attack that created unrest in the community," the president added.
