Fisheries exports targeted to rise 6.8 percent

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government raised its target on export value of fishery commodities in 2016. Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries exports target this year is 6.8 percent, one percent higher than last year's target of 5.8 percent.

Director General of Strengthening Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products R Nilanto Perbowo said, superior products that would be intensified the export are tuna and shrimp. Nilanto was optimistic that these two products could be sold this year, although he acknowledged the export trend in the third quarter of 2015 has decreased.

"Although we experienced a decline, but tuna commodity export increased," said Nilanto, Monday (11/1).

He explained, to boost export figures, there are some efforts have been carried out by the Ministry, such as the ease in the export system. Then also opened the investment door wider for foreigners.

Not only that, the Indonesian government also formally asked the Russian government to pass clearance of 11 Indonesian exporters to be able to supply aquaculture products to Russia.
