In 2025, Indonesia will make two squadrons of fighter aircraft

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia through Ministry of Defense cooperated with South Korea to make KFX IFCX fighter aircraft. Cooperation which was delayed in 2015 was resumed.

Both countries signed contract of CSA in Ministry of Defense office, Thursday (6/1). This cooperation was manufacture of five prototypes fighter aircraft. Four prototypes would made in South Korea, while one prototype would be made in Indonesia.

Defense Minister, General (ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu, targeted all prototypes would be finished in 2020. He also believed that by 2025, Indonesia could make two squadrons of fighter aircraft.

"In 2025 we target to make two squadrons. The infrastructure is ready. PT DI is also ready," said Ryamizard.

Within the program, Indonesia and South Korea divided the operational cost to 20 percent and 80 percent. Indonesia would spend 20 percent of the total cost of manufacture fighter aircraft prototypes. Ministry of Defense would invest Rp 18 trillion in the project.
