REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Concession Agency of Batam, Riau Islands, would begin construction of Terminal Two Hang Nadim International Airport in 2018 with a capacity of eight million passengers per year with a budget of Rp 3 trillion.
"It was planned, in 2018 we will build terminal two on the left side of the existing terminal. The budget is around Rp 3 trillion," said Head of General of Hang Nadim International Airport, Suwarso, in Batam, Tuesday (5/1).
Terminal two is needed given the growth of aviation in Hang Nadim International Airport was high. So that one terminal would not be able to accommodate passengers.
"Current capacity is five million passengers per year. Meanwhile, until the end of 2015 the number of passengers has been above five million people. So while waiting for the construction of terminal two, the current terminal will be maximized and Increased to a capacity of eight million passengers per year," he explained.
Now, Hang Nadim Airport has a runway of 4,025 meters long which makes this airport has the longest runway in Indonesia. With current condition, Hang Nadim Airport could accommodate 18 wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 767.
The airport has also been designated as a domestic liaison for Lion Air which further improved in 2015 as an international liaison by the airline.
Lion Air currently controlled about 35 percent of flights from Hang Nadim, followed by Citilink (20 percent), Garuda (15 percent), and the rest are Sriwijaya Air, Wings Air, and Malindo Air.
