REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo hoped Merauke Fishing Port could be opened next year, so that fishes export in waters of Merauke could be maximized. All obstacles in the construction process of the Port would be coordinated with Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in order to be solved immediately.
The budget used was from Merauke Regional Budget as much as Rp 89 billion and from State Budget as much as Rp 97 billion. Total budget was Rp 187 billion from masterplan budget of Rp 1.3 trillion.
Merauke fishing port was built in 2010 and the construction has not been completed due to funding problems. Besides that, the port belongs to Pelindo IV, also lacked of cranes.
"This year, we give additional funding because fish production in Merauke was huge," the President said, in Merauke, Wednesday (30/12).
The Government through Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries would buy 3,400 units of vessels to be given to fishermen. A number of vessels would also be allocated also for fishermen in Merauke.
"The duty of the government is to give a good port facilities, so that fishermen can get a lot of fishes," he said.
