KPK sets Choel Mallarangeng as suspect of Hambalang corruption case

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) set brother of former minister of Youth and Sports Andi Mallarangeng, Andi Zulkarnaen Mallarangeng a.k.a Choel Mallarangeng, as suspect of development projects of infrastructure for Training Center, Education, and National Sports School (P2SON) in Hambalang in 2010-2012.

"In the development of investigations of alleged corruption related to construction of sports center infrastructure in Hambalang in 2010-2012, KPK investigators found two items of evidence to name AZM (Andi Zulkarnain Mallarangeng) as a suspect," said Acting Head of Public Relations of KPK, Yuyuk Andriati, in a press conference at KPK building in Jakarta, Monday (21/12).

Choel was referred to as intermediary who gave 550 thousand dollars to Andi Mallarangeng from former Head of Financial and Household Bureau of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Deddy Kusdinar.

The money was given gradually, Rp 2 billion was received by Choel Mallarangeng in his office from PT Global Daya Manunggal and Rp 1.5 billion was received by Choel Mallarangeng from PT Global Daya Manunggal through former Secretary of Minister of Youth and Sports Wafid Muharram, and Rp 500 million was received by Choel Mallarangeng from PT Global Daya Manunggal through Mohammad Fakhruddin.

"The suspect AZM was allegedly against the law and abuse their authority to enrich himself or another person or corporation related to the construction of sport center infrastructure in Hambalang in 2010-2012," Yuyuk added.

This case was the development of corruption case of Hambalang Sport Center project which previously been ensnared former Minister of Youth and Sport Andi Mallarangeng as budget user, former Head of Financial and Household Bureau Deddy Kusdinar as Commitment Officer, and former Operations Director 1 PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Teuku Bagus Mukhamad Noor and former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum.
