VP asks for Mandalika SEZ acceleration

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LOMBOK -- Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for tourism in Mandalika, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was accelerated. Three international hotel chains on Saturday (12/12), conducted ground breaking in Kuta, Lombok, covering an area of ​​1,175 hectares under management of Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation. All three were Pullman Mandalika Eco Resort, Club Med, and Lee's Mandalika Beach Hotel.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla, accompanied by Chairman of the Assembly Zulkifli Hasan, Tourism Ministry Arief Yahya, Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi, NTB Governor Muhammad Zainul Majdi, were reviewing the first phase construction, development of infrastructure and facilities.

"We do acceleration for Mandalika SEZ to soon become tourism-based economy," said Kalla, Sunday (13/12).

He asserted, Praya Lombok Airport runway would also be extended, so that wide-bodied aircraft, such as Boeng 777 could land safely. The airlines, such as Emirates, Qatar Airline from the Middle East could conduct direct flights to Lombok.

"Currently, the runway length is 2,700 meters. We will extend 500 meters more," he added.

Managing Director of Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Abdoelbar Mansoer explained, the two hotels would to be built in 2016. Simultaneously, marina, yacht base, hotel, Polytechnic of Tourism, water treatment plant with seawater osmosis technology, administrative offices of SEZ, solar power plants, widening and hardening of the road also would be built.
