REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Shamsi Ali, Islamic figure in New York responded statement of the United States (US) presidential candidate Donald Trump about banning Muslims in the US. According to him, two to three years ago, Trump also ever gave a similar statement.

Shamsi Ali had also been arguing with Trump in an event. The following letter was Shamsi Ali's response to a controversial statement of Trump (the last part).

Attitudes and statements of Donald Trump did not reduce Islamic value in the United States (US), which is increasingly advanced. Many who thought Trump's statements would complicate Islamic position.

It might be true, on one hand, it would foster hatred and misunderstanding in some people. But, on the other hand, it had turned into a "ladder" which bring Islam to a position that is much higher in the US. Just imagine, after Trump issued a statement to ban Muslims to come to the US, several cities in the US issued a statement to reject Trump entrance to the cities. The President, ministers, businessmen, religious community, and Hollywood also issued the statement.

Then, attitude and statements of Trump did not need to be paid with attention. For me, it was not more than a few possibilities: 1) It was part of the joke of a candidate named Donald Trump. Not serious. 2) The appearance of true Trump that he was having "mental disturbance" (mental disorder). 3) Ignorance of political calculation that he have thought if he was attacking Islam, he would have more support.

In the end, I always reminded fellow Muslims to enjoy this trip. Long journey to success would make Islam as an integral part of America. Which would become one of components that contribute to the advancement, strength and beauty of the US. And Islam anywhere would be positioning itself as a positive contributor, not a threat and an enemy to anyone.
