REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- In 2016, Indonesia was predicted to surplus in supply of natural gas. Director General of Oil and Gas of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) IGN Wiratmaja Puja explained, surplus in gas supply from domestic production reached 48 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

"Our gas supply in 2020 is expected to be imported, but next year we will surplus LNG. There are 48 cargoes of residual gas," he said, in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/12).

He also revealed, surplus in supply of gas would be even greater when LNG plant or Train III Tangguh, in Papua, started its production in 2018-2019.

"Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) 80 percent buyer has no commitment yet, from an average of 16 cargoes of LNG production. Pertamina bought four cargoes and there is 12 cargoes left," he explained.

Previously, the government was also targeting a decrease of gas prices. The government planned to reduce gas prices for industry in January 2016. However, the decline in gas prices for industry was potentially reducing state revenue of Rp 6 trillion to Rp 13 trillion.
