Jakarta to restructure non-busway transportation system

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Provincial Government planned to restructure management of public transport in the capital city. This was done in order to provide maximum public transport services to the public.

Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Industry, Trade, and Transportation Sutanto Soehodo said, the first step of management of public transport was started from management of trajectory. Through good management, he added, mass transportation integrated mode would be created.

"Not to take over, but to restructure the non-busway transport," said Sutanto, Tuesday (8/12) in Jakarta.

Sutanto said the restructuring would involve Kopaja, Metromini, Dian Mitra, and Koantas Bima. Later, the mass transportation would be no longer using medium-sized buses, but transformed into a large-sized buses as Transjakarta.

This restructuring also included passenger payment system. Later, passengers would use electronic ticketing system (e-ticketing) just like Transjakarta because tariffs imposed was rupiah per kilometer. The public transportation would be integrated as a feeder of Transjakarta, Commuterline train, MRT, and BRT.

"The point is how non-busway transport using better system and management. The passenger also can get minimum service standards," he added.
