REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia finally joined Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2016. OPEC governor for Indonesia, Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja, explained as an active member of OPEC, Indonesia would have many advantages.

Currently, said Widhyawan, Indonesia was in the process of transition from fossil fuels energy to renewable energy that are more sustainable. He stated, to improve energy security, Indonesia should improve domestic energy sector in the form of facilitating license investment, encouraging exploration, and improving governance.

"This is reinforced by active role of Indonesia in foreign cooperation both multilaterally and bilaterally," said Widhyawan, in Jakarta, Friday (4/12).

In addition, these efforts were increasingly realized after Indonesia became a member of International Energy Agency (IEA) since 17th November 2015 and was re-activated its membership in OPEC.

"Indonesia will be part of the decision-making, and not only as the recipient of the result of the decision," he added.

Widhyawan said, an international energy network opens the door for acceleration of technology transfer and mutually beneficial business opportunities. It was also for access to the latest research and development and opportunity for Indonesian experts to participate actively and globally.
