VP: Seventh policy package to ease investment

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The seventh tranche of the economic policy package to be announced on Friday will ease investment in Indonesia, Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated.

"It will focus on ways to ease investment and provide incentives," Kalla noted at the Vice Presidential Office here on Friday.

He remarked that the policy package is aimed at accelerating and easing investment opportunities in the country.

The policy package is also expected to lower the cost of investment for investors to open labor-intensive industry, he pointed out.

He forecast that the series of economic policy packages issued since September 2015 would have an impact on the Indonesian economy in stages.

"Some of them will have a short-term impact, while others will have a long-term impact. Not all of them will have an immediate impact," he emphasized.

The government is discussing the seventh tranche of the economic policy package as a follow up to several policy packages issued since September 2015.

According to Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, the seventh tranche of the economic policy package is primarily aimed at stimulating and easing investment and anticipating the possibility of the US Federal Reserve raising its interest rate.

Basically, the Indonesian government has issued a series of economic policy packages in an effort to maintain the country's economic fundamentals in the face of dynamic global challenges, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution noted recently.
