REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Director General of National Export Development (PEN) of Ministry of Trade, Nus Nuzulia Ishak, said fish exports to Taiwan continued to increase. Until August 2015, exports of fishery products increased to 31.12 million US dollars.

"Export value of fishery products during the period of January to August 2015 increased by 27.87 percent over the same period last year, to become 31.12 million US dollars," said Nus, in Jakarta, Sunday (22/11).

Nus explained, Indonesia was one of the main suppliers of fisheries products to Taiwan after Norway, China, Vietnam, and Chile. Nus was optimistic that Indonesia could continue to improve the supply of fishery products to Taiwan, especially after the government made law enforcement against illegal fishing.

"Although it was only able to meet 7.04 percent of Taiwan's total imports from the world, Indonesia certainly can increase fish exports to the country," Nus added.

Nus said, in 2014, fish exports to Taiwan grew by 6.23 percent in the last five years with a value of 46.9 million US dollars. Export commodities was dominated by frozen, dried, or pickled cuttlefish and squid worth 8.28 million US dollars, with the trend of 13.9 percent in the last five years.

According to Nus, the image of Indonesian fishery products continued to be improved. Intensive promotion will change negative paradigm of Indonesian products which was usually known with illegal fishing and full of bacteria.
