REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak, opened the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday (21/11). In his opening speech, Najib urged ASEAN countries to combat terrorism. Najib called on world leaders to combat terrorism after several attacks occurred in Europe and Africa.
"The terrorist was doing cowardly and barbaric act. They did not represent any races, religions or belief," said Najib, commented on Paris and Mali attacks, Saturday (21/11).
Najib added that Muslim-majority countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, have a duty to expose false ideology spread by the extremist. The terrorist, he added, sould be faced with strong international law.
In addition, the overlapping claims on the territorial waters of South China Sea was also a controversial subject among ASEAN countries. China had been accused for building artificial islands to expand its military forces in South China Sea.
"We call upon all parties to avoid any actions that would cause tensions," said Najib.
Previously, US President, Barack Obama, also gave comment related to economic issue in South China Sea. He said the problem should be resolved by dialogue not by intimidation or coercion.
