REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The next chairman of the influential Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) must have deep knowledge of the economic problem being faced by the country, the Logistics and Forwarders' Association (ALFI) said.
"The government has issued a series of economic policy packages. There must be hurdles in the implementation. Kadin, therefore, is expected to help the government in removing the hurdles," ALFI general chairman Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi said here on Sunday.
The government has over the past month issued six economic policy packages marked with deregulation to draw foreign investment and boost exports to cope with economic slowdown.
Yukki proposed Rosan P Roeslani, the founder of investment company Recapital is the right person to lead Kadin , saying Rosan has far reaching economic vision.
"Rosan is not only a successful businessman, but he is also an economic thinker," he added.
He said the position of Kasdin general chairman is important as he or she must also be well versed in macro economy and has strong character.
Kadin leader must be able to maintain good relations with the government as well as with business associations, he said.
Earlier, chairman of the Honorary Council of Indonesian Real Estate Companies (REI) Lukman Purnomosidi said the next general chairman of Kadin must be a complete business leader with deep knowledge not only of problems in the real sector but also in the financial sector especially stock market.
Currently the business sector especially in the regions is facing difficulty in raising capital, Lukman said.
One well versed in stock market would help Kadin members in the regions show access to capital, he said.
Under the present condition of economic slump, capital is one of the most important factor for the business sector, he said.
Kadin plans to hold its next national congress to select a new general chairman in Bandung from Nov. 22 to 24 this year.
A number of business leaders have expressed readiness to lead Kadin for the next period of 2015-2010 including Rosan P Roeslani, former Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel, and Maxi Gunawan.
The national congress with the theme,"Strengthening National and Regional Economic Competitiveness through development of strong industry, innovation and sustainability."
The main agenda is to formulate a number of strategic working programs in addition to selecting a new general chairman to replace Suryo Bambang Sulistio, who has lead the organization since 2010.
The national congress with participants of at least 2,000 business leaders and observers, is to be officially opened by President Joko Widodo.
