15 countries participating in seaweed forum in Makassar

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Representatives from 15 countries are participating in the third Indonesia Seaweed Forum in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on November 11-15, 2015, Arman Arfah, the organizing committee chairman, stated here on Wednesday.

"Some 200 participants from Japan, Italy, Australia, Morocco, Vietnam, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, South Korea, India, Argentina, Spain, Switzerland, France, and Germany are attending the scientific and seaweed commodity business forum and exhibition," Arfah remarked.

He noted that the forum participants comprised business players, academicians, and government and industrial elements.

According to Arfah, the forum is being jointly organized by the Indonesian Seaweed Industry Association and the Indonesian Seaweed Cultivation and Seaweed Community.

"The Indonesia Seaweed Forum is an international forum held every three years to promote cooperation and exchange of information on seaweed," he affirmed.

Arfah reiterated that the forum will feature various activities, such as a national workshop, a conference, an international exhibition on seaweed cultivation, and a launch of a public campaign on Indonesian Seaweed Eating Movement (Gemari Sehat), an international business forum.

He further added that the participants in the forum will explore the benefits of seaweed as food, health, beauty, energy, and other industrial support products.

"This forum is an opportunity for the participants to exchange their experiences and information and to present the results of research and development of seaweed," he explained.
