REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The country's large and medium scale manufacturing industries grew only 4.08 percent year-on-year in production in the first quarter of 2016.
The growth was attributable to a healthy growth of 10.5 percent recorded by pharmaceutical, chemical and traditional medical industries in the same period, The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.
In addition, an increase was also recorded in non metal quarry industry by 8.58 percent and base metal industry by 7.61 percent, BPS chief Suryamin said here on Monday.
Declines were recorded in the production of non medical chemical products down 10.85 percent and production of electrical equipment and ready made wear by 9.97 percent.
North Sumatra, Riau and Jakarta recorded the highest growth in the production of large and medium scale industries in the first quarter of 2016.
Papua Barat and Banten recorded in a decline.
Declines were also recorded in rubber, plastic paper and paper product industries, but increases were recorded in timber, timber products not including furniture and rattan and bamboo products.
