Rice production in NTB increases by 10.12 percent

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) estimated the rice production in the region during the growing season in 2015 reached 2.33 million tons. It increased by 10.12 percent compared to the previous year.

"Based on the calculation, it was due to the harvested area in the growing season which increased to 456,395 hectares and the productivity is also expected to rise by 4.65 percent," said Head of BPS of NTB, Wahyudin, in Mataram, Monday (9/11).

While the amount of rice production in 2014, he added, was 2.11 million tonnes of milled rice. It decreased by 3.51 percent compared to the previous year's production of 2.13 million tonnes.

A decline in production was due to reduced harvested area from ​​438,057 hectares in 2013 to 433,712 hectares in growing season of 2014.

"There is a reduction in harvested area in growing season of 2014, of ​​11,236 hectares or 2.93 per cent," said Wahyudin.

While corn production, he said, was expected to increase to 944,892 tonnes or 20.24 percent compared to the previous year. Increased production was due to increased harvested area from 126,277 hectares in 2014 to 142,331 hectares in 2015. Then, the productivity increased by 6.93 percent.

Moreover, Wahyudin said, soybean production was expected to increase to 130,564 tonnes of dry beans. The rising commodity production was due to increased harvested area from ​​68,896 hectares to 94,760 hectares or by 37.54 percent.
