REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- Police precinct personnel of the West Sumatra provincial city of Padang destroyed 14 kg of marijuana and three ounces of crystal methamphetamine (shabu-shabu) on Friday, a police officer said.
"The destroyed drugs comprised the evidence in several cases and were seized between April and October 2015, and were worth around Rp350 million," Senior Commissioner Wisnu Andayana said here on Friday.
According to him, some of the suspects involved in the circulation of destroyed drugs have been convicted and several others were still facing the process of the courts.
He further said while there were 58 cases of drug abuse in the region in 2014, the number rose to 175 cases in 2015.
"The suspects are all male adults. Of them, 50 percent are users themselves, while the rest are kingpins," he pointed out.
The drugs destroyed in Padang had originated from the drug suppliers in provinces of Riau, North Sumatra and Aceh, he added.
