Indonesia to become International Islamic studies center

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia as a moderate Muslim majority country planned to become of international Islamic studies center in the world. Minister of Religious Affairs, Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin, said it was the right time for Indonesian Muslims to contribute in the development model of Islamic civilization through a moderate way.

"We offer ourselves to the world, to be a choice if you want to explore the teachings of Islam," he said, Monday (2/11).

By making Indonesia as international Islamic studies center, Indonesia at least require a world class university. It was important to spread Islamic values ​​to be more effective.

"We will make a world class university, such as university research for post-graduate," he added.

It was because of international Islamic university was not only a college, but also center of science, Islam and civilization which was reflecting Indonesian value.

He admitted the idea had long delivered by most scholars and Muslim leaders in Indonesia. However, Lukman said that he would realize the idea of ​establishing international Islamic university by involving several parties.
