230 designers join Jakarta Fashion Week 2016

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Since Saturday (24/10), Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2016 was officially opened. During the next seven days, one of the largest fashion week in Southeast Asia would present best works of domestic and foreign designers.

There were at least 230 designers and labels from local and international who participated in this fashion show. In JFW 2016, visitors could witness the dresses that were confirmed as benchmark of fashion trends that would be developed in the next year.

Since it was first held in 2008, JFW had contributed to establish Jakarta as a fashion center in Southeast Asia. In addition, the success of this show was expected to be one of the drivers of national economic growth.

"Through this event, I hope many Indonesian designers could be more well-known and contributed to promote national economic growth," said Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, in the opening of JFW 2016, Saturday (24/10), in Jakarta.

In JFW, potential development program of designer of Indonesia Fashion Forward (IFF) has also become one of the main activities. Since the last four year, this program became a means of education to equip designers with theory and simulation about fashion as a whole, from branding to marketing processes.
