REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo discussed a number of issues with former president Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Merdeka state palace here on Saturday.
"I received Mdm Megawati, accompanied by the secretary general of PDIP, for almost two hours, discussing problems relating to economy, economic slowdown, forest fires and haze," he said at a press conference after the meeting.
Former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is currently the chairperson of the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), said a lot of things were discussed, including economic and haze problems as well as political issues such as the upcoming regional elections.
"I was indeed invited by the President to come here because the President was to leave for the US and wanted to talk to me about certain economic problems and forest and land fires that need to be immediately extinguished," she said.
"I also told him about my recent visits to China and South Korea when I was there at a time when an ICAPP conference was ongoing, discussing many issues in the world.
I gave my inputs to the conference and also held bilateral talks with Chinese president Xi Jinping and also received an honorary doctorate degree in South Korea," she said.
