REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- About 6,000 homes in Medan, North Sumatra, were flooded due to heavy rains since Sunday (18/10) night. Head of Data Information and Public Relations of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said the flood that occurred in Monday (18/10) morning, around 03:00 am, swamps homes in six districts in Medan.
The districts were Medan Baru, Medan Selayang, Medan Johor, Medan Petisah, Medan Polonia, and Medan Marelan with a height of about one meter. Although there were no fatalities, but there were around 450 people were displaced to the yard of Al-Musadiqin mosque in Medan Johor.
Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Medan had conducted evacuation, data collection, and provided logistical support in the form of foods. The observation over Deli River on Monday afternoon showed that the water discharge was increased.
