87 kingdoms to participate in Nusantara Palace Festival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDARI -- At least 87 kingdoms throughout Indonesia will participate in the Nusantara (Archipelago) Royal Palace and ASEAN's Adat (Customary) Community Festival to be held in Kendari, East Sulawesi, November 12-15, 2015.

Of the total 120 kingdoms invited to the festival, 87 have sent their confirmations of participation, HM Damsid, head of the Southeast Sulawesi education and culture office, said here, recently.

The invitees include kings and queens of kingdoms in Indonesia, other Asian countries and Europe, he added.

Singapore, Pakistan, Malaysia, the Philippines and the Netherlands have confirmed that they would send representatives to the festival, he noted.

Some 20 kings/queens from the five foreign countries will take part in the festival, he stated.

Programs during the festival will include a cultural carnival, a seminar, an exhibition, and cultural and art performances.

The exhibition will display king and queen costumes, and royal weapons.

The 9th Nusantara Royal Palace Festival was organized in Bima on Sumbawa island, West Nusa Tenggara Province in September 2014.

Some 1,500 participants from 82 kingdoms and sultanates from across the archipelago and Selangor state in Malaysia took part in the event.

Next year, the Nusantara Royal Palace Festival will be organized in Pangkalan Bun, West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan.

Early this year, The 14th Sultan of Cirebon, Arief Natadiningrat announced that Cirebon, which is located in West Java Province, will host the Nusantara Royal Palace Festival in 2017.
