REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TASIKMALAYA -- Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry of Tasikmalaya recorded that until the end of August 2015 there were about 84 hectares of rice fields that failed. Meanwhile, Farmers Group Association noted that rice field that failed reached 120 hectares until September 2015.
Head of Food Crops and Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry of Tasikmalaya, Enung Nurteti, said the amount of loss due to crop failure in Tasikmalaya has not been counted, but it can be estimated. She explained that the current price of grain was expensive, in the range of Rp 5,500 to Rp 5,800 per kg.
According to her, rice fields in Tasikmalaya on average could produce about 6 tons or 6,000 kg of dried grain per hectare. So that the amount of grain production was reduced by about 504 thousand kg. It was obtained from 6,000 kg per hectare multiplied by 84 hectares of rice fields that failed.
"The losses are estimated at around Rp 2.7 billion. It was derived from 504 thousand kg multiplied by the price of grain that falls in the range of Rp 5,500 per kg today," said Enung to Republika.co.id, Sunday (4/10).
Chairman of Farmers Group Association of Tasikmalaya, Uyun, added that that farmers got double losses, because the lands that they planted with high cost did not produce anything.
"One hectare of rice field needs Rp 4 million to cultivating the soil, planting and fertilizing," said Uyun.
Uyun explained, to face the dry season the following year, based on the experience of this year, farmers requires a program of planting soybeans. It was because in Kawalu, Tasikmalaya, soybean production this year was very good.
"Planting soybeans do not need to be expensive to cultivate the land. The only costs are for fertilizer," Uyun added.
