REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) entered the list of 800 best universities in the world for the first time. The list was released by a British Media, Times Higher Education (THE), in World University Rankings of 2015-2016, 12th edition, Wednesday (30/9).

According to Head of Public Relations of UI, Rifelly Dewi Astuti, UI became one university that were taken into the list by THE along with 800 other universities. Those universities were spread over 70 countries.

"UI is in the group of 601 to 800 best universities in the world," said Rifelly, Friday (2/10).

In addition to Indonesia, there were 29 new countries included in the ranking list of THE. They were Malaysia, Ghana, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Latvia, Oman, Qatar, and Ukraine.

THE World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious international rankings for higher education in the world. THE also became the most influential international magazines in the world of higher education.

The assessment method, said Rifelly, focused on research conducted by the academic community of the university. The indicators were seen from the performance of teaching (teaching and learning), research (amount, reputation) and research citations. Besides that, there were also international coverage (staff, students and research) and industry cooperation.

Rifelly also hoped that this success does not only belong to the UI. She stated that this was a national success, because it can lead to increased quality of education and research in Indonesia.
