REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Riau Provincial Health Office noted that from 29th June to 27th September 2015, the number of victims of smoke reached 44,871 people.

"The data of smoke victim as much as 44,871 is compiled from data center of health posts in Riau," said Chief of Riau Health Office, Andra Sjafril, Monday (28/9).

According to him, from 44,871 people, 37,396 of them were with acute respiratory infections (ISPA), 656 people with pneumonia, 1,702 people with asthma, 2,207 people with eyes irritation, and 2,911 people with skin diseases .

"We are also urged to make smoke-related health posts, involving midwives in villages," he said.

In addition, he also recommended Department of Education to free the students from school due to the thick level of smoke. The Department of Health can also socialize the use of masks.

"The mask is not for the prevention of infectious diseases. It can be re-used and can be cleaned. It is just to prevent the entry of small particles," he said.

Of 44,871 people, 9,205 cases occurred in Pekanbaru, 5,807 cases occurred in Siak, 5,498 cases occurred in Kuantan Singingi, 4,485 cases occurred in Rokan Hulu, and 4,048 cases were in Dumai.

In addition, 3,609 cases were in Bengkalis, 2,648 cases were in Indragiri Hilir, 2,548 cases were in Rokan Hilir, 2,425 cases were in Pelalawan, 2,394 cases were in Kampar, 1,579 cases were in Indragiri Hulu, and 565 cases were in Meranti.
