Indonesia to discuss pilgrimage safety with Saudi Arabia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian government planned to discuss about management of hajj with Government of Saudi Arabia. It aimed to ensure that the management of Hajj provides comfort and security.

"The Government is interested to discussed with Saudi Arabia Government about the management of Hajj," said Chief of Presidential Staff, Teten Masduki, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday (25/9).

The discussion would be conducted related to Mina accident. On Wednesday (24/9), about 717 pilgrims died in hajj stampede in Arab Road 204, Mina, and a total of three victims were from Indonesia.

He said, what the Government can do is to improve the quality of the management of hajj. It means that the Government does not only pay attention to the administration but also the mentoring of pilgrimage.

The cause of Mina accident was still unknown. However, Minister of Religious Affairs was already there and Minister of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Saudi Arabia government.

He considered, a matter of safety, security and comfort of pilgrims needs to be discussed with Saudi Arabia. The reason is, the pilgrims largely depend on Saudi Arabia government's security and facilities.
