Indonesia's exports up 10 percent in August

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said Indonesia's exports in August 2015 rose 10.79 percent to US$12.7 billion from US$11.48 billion in the previous months.

"However, year-on-year, the exports in Ausgust fell 12.28 percent," BPSW chief Suryamin said here on Tuesday.

Suryamin said the country's exports not including oil and gas were valued at US$11.17 billion or an increase of 11.23 percent from July , but down 5.99 percent year-on-year.

He said the highest increase in Auguist was recorded in the ornament and jewelry exports which were valued at US$237.1 million or up 121.75 percent.

The sharpest fall in the same period was recorded in the exports of tin down 99.96 percent to US$103.8 million.

"The largest export destination of commodities other than oil and gas was still the United States to which exports were valued at US$1.33 billion," Suryamin said.

The second largest export destination was China to which exports of commodities other than oil and gas were valued at US$1.11 billion , followed by Japan to which exports were valued at US$1.05 billion . The three countries accounted for 31.24 percent of the country's exports of non-oi;/gas commodities.

Cumulatively, the country's exports in the first 8 months of the year were valued at US$102.52 billion , down 12.7 percent year-on-year from US$117.43 billion.

Exports of commodities other than oil and gas in the first 8 months of the year reached US$89.60 billion or 7.3 percent lower than US$96.66 billion in the same period last year.

Exports of manufactured goods outside oil and gas also fell 7.36 percent and exports of minerals dropped 9.15 percent to US$13.67 billion.

Exports of agricultural products , however, rose 1.77 percent to US$3.72 billion from US$3.65 billion in the same period.
