REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- 62nd Conference on English Language Teaching or Teaching English as Foreign Language in Indonesia (Teflin) was held in Bali, at 14th to 16th September 2015. Udayana University became the host of more than 600 English teachers from various countries in the world.
Director of Indonesian Development at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Mariam Kartikatresni, said teachers of UTS who were participated in this annual conference, were aimed to share experiences of international English language teaching.
A number of expert professors also presented to share their expertise in English language education, particularly with Indonesian teachers.
"This is one form of commitment in supporting the development of English language education in Indonesia," said Mariam in Denpasar, on Monday (14/9).
Portal SCImago Journal and Country Rank put Indonesia in 57th rank out of 239 countries in the world for a number of international scientific publications from 1996 to 2014. SCImago Journal and Country Rank is a portal that ranks the publication of scientific papers from each country based on data from SCOPUS.
Indonesia has published scientific papers as many as 32,355 papers. This amount was still in below Singapore which was ranked 32nd with 192,492 papers, Malaysia which was ranked 36th with 153,378 papers, and Thailand which was ranked 43rd with 109,832 papers.
Other ASEAN countries such as Vietnam, was ranked 66th, Philippines was ranked 69th , Brunei Darussalam was ranked 130th, Laos was ranked 137th, and Myanmar was ranked 142nd.
Cooperation between teachers of Australian and Indonesian languages allowed both countries to exchange experiences and focuses on the application of language education. This exchange helped to build bilateral relations.
"There is a deeper involvement, especially when Indonesia is currently holding an English competition for ASEAN this year," said Dean of Studies in English Language Pathway College UTS: Insearch, Tim Laurence.
Highest publication of scientific papers in the world was occupied by the United States with 8,629,163 papers. It was followed by China with 3,617,355 papers and UK with 2,397,817 papers.
