Compensation for Jatigede reservoir 95 percent completed, minister claims

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUMEDANG -- Minister of Public Works and Public Housing,  Basuki Hadimuljono, stated that compensation process for around 10,900 families of victims affected by the construction of Jatigede reservoir, Sumedang, West Java, has reached 95 percent.

"Based on data, there were 95 percent of families who already be paid. We need 55 days to close the area at the bottom,” he said, in Sumedang, Monday (31/8).

He said that the government has commitment to resolve the problems related to the construction of the Jatigede reservoir. "Of course we are aware that until now there has not been 100 percent, but we committed to complete the entire settlement issue in accordance with the instruction of President Jokowi," he explained.

There were about 10 thousand families impacted by Jatigede reservoir construction. Those families were grouped into two sections. Meanwhile, Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan, said that there will be families who get compensation for Rp 29 million and Rp 122 million.
