Fires burn 185 hectares of forest in Mount Ciremai

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUNINGAN -– Fires in Mount Ciremai that happened for 11 days, had burned 185 hectares of land. Anticipation stiil be done to prevent a resurgence of the fire.

“It was a temporary estimation,” said the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Kuningan, Agus Mauludin, Wednesday (26/8).

Agus stated, the area of 185 hectares was located in the woods of Mount Ciremai who was between Kuningan and Majalengka. The fire has burned a variety of plants such as edelweiss, Cantigi, pelending, reeds and other trees.

Fire hotspot in Mount Ciremai was known originated in Sadarehe, Majalengka, Friday (14/8) at around 18:00 pm. Strong wind made the fire quickly spread to Kuningan since Sunday (16/8).

On Tuesday (25/8), there was no hotspot and the condition was safe. The rescue team already left the fire location.

Head of the National Park of Mount Ciremai (BTNGC) Region 1, Hawal Widodo added, although the fire has been extinguished, but the officials have to be aware of the possibility of resurgence of the fire. Moreover, the hot air temperature and strong winds are still going on.

"The dry season is expected until November. We will always be aware,” Widodo explained.

Eight posts have built in eight locations, namely Padabenghar, Paninjauan, Pejaten, Lambosir, Bintangot, and Sayana.
