REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government has projected that 143.9 million people will travel during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period, prompting the need for mobility management to avoid crowding at specific times.

“We are trying to reduce pressure by extending the holiday period, adjusting school vacations, and implementing flexible working arrangements for civil servants, which are expected to ease travel demand,” Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said here on Monday.

In addition to mobility management, Pratikno stressed vigilance against hydrometeorological disasters. Conditions in Sumatra have not fully recovered, with recurring rain and floods affecting previously impacted areas.

Elsewhere, the alert level remains high, including in West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, and Papua, which continue to experience high rainfall potential.

“We must work hard to ensure safety, protecting lives is our highest priority. We must implement integrated disaster mitigation together,” he said.

Pratikno also highlighted the importance of travel safety, particularly for motorcyclists, and securing vital routes that are crucial during the homecoming and return flow.

“Safety is the focus, especially for motorcyclists. Securing vital routes must also be a shared responsibility to ensure safe services,” he added.

He emphasized that services during the homecoming and the Eid al-Fitr holiday must adopt a humanistic and inclusive approach, with special attention to vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

The minister stressed that the success of Eid al-Fitr services depends on cross-sector synergy, strengthened early detection, data-driven decision-making, and continuous field monitoring.

“This is our joint commitment to guarantee safe, comfortable, and smooth services. The presence of the state must be directly felt by the public through humanistic and responsive services,” Pratikno said.
