REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- Indonesia is still considered as favorite place for transnational crimes. Recently, Polda Metro Jaya with Taiwan police arrested 90 more citizens of China and Taiwan which were involved in the crime of extortion.

The suspects who were in Indonesia immediately called and contacted China officials. The operation, surprisingly, was helped by the Japanese Yakuza.

Security cyber experts, Pratama Persadha said that Indonesia still becomes favorite locations for cyber criminals, because there are many loopholes that can be exploited. Less stringent immigration access makes them easy to enter Indonesia.

"However, the most vulnerable crime is via telephone and internet, because it is difficult to detect in Indonesia," he said, Monday (25/8).

The authorities are still difficult to detect, because there is no special agency that oversees cyber space in Indonesia.

Chairman of cyber security research institute CISSReC (Communication and Information system Security Research Center) explained that the government can be more focused on cyber and telecommunications surveillance. Indonesia becomes a serious target because the security systems are not yet ready.

For example, people can easily buy customer information to break the ATM. "It turns out cyber criminals can run crime from prison because of the internet access. So there are still many improvements to be made," he said.
