Victory would bring us to independence. Without victory there would be no independence because independence is the freedom of self-determination without interference or pressure from others.

On 17th August 1945, Indonesia declared independence from the Dutch colonial government. After 350 years of occupation by the Dutch, finally Indonesia has a momentum to declare the independence.

Was Indonesia free from pressure or interference from the Dutch, after declaring its independence? The answer is likely “no”. The Dutch would not be unwilling if Indonesia was free of them. The Dutch mobilized all of their abilities to take control over Indonesia. They brought a large force allies to return to Indonesia.

Indonesia also did not remain silent. Indonesia exerted its power to maintain its independence. Indonesia does not want to be colonized again by the Dutch because colonization is a violation of Human Rights. Colonization left suffering, poverty and tyranny for Indonesian people.

The meeting of two desires (colonized and independent) will create two powers that will be facing each other. When the two powers meet, then the inevitable war is possibbly happened. Every war will bear the winner and loser.

The winner will have power to dominate the loser. Victory is to defeat the enemy. Victory will be born from hard work in putting all abilities to defeat the enemy. The victory also can be obtained if we can conquer the challenges/obstacles that are encountered.

What is the meaning of victory for a Mukmin? Do we have an enemy to be conquered? When will the war happen? Can we come out as a winner or a loser?

Allah created human beings in this world to become the Caliph. The Caliph task is to manage the world with the rule of Allah so that the earth can be prosperous. People are encouraged also to do good to other humans in the entire universe.

Before creating human beings, Allah had created other beings called angels. Allah commanded the angels to bow down to Adam, but the satan did not want to bow down to Adam. The satan thought that he was more precious because he was created from fire. While Adam was created from the soil. This was the first arrogance shown by Allah's creatures.

Disobedience to Allah's command by the satan, made the satan cursed and expelled from heaven. The satan then asked for power and permission to Allah to turn away descendants of Adam from the path of Allah.

God had warned that satan and devil are real enemies to people. Satan is an enemy who openly declared hostility. Satan will try to beat people by turning people away from the path of Allah. Satan will justify any ways to seduce people.

Al Quran Surah Al Israa (17:64): "You may try to allure whomsoever you can with your seductive voice, muster against them all your cavalry and infantry, be their partner in their riches and their children, and promise them what you will - the promises of satan are nothing but deception."

Satan will tempt people from all directions, there will be so little of people, who are always grateful. It is stated in the Quran Surah Al A'raaf (7: 16-17): " The devil said: Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)."

In addition to having an external enemy (the devil and satan), people also has an enemy from within. That are desire and prejudice. Desire that is not guided by the revelation of Allah will always bring people to sin. While the prejudice would lead people away from the truth.

Being piety people is not an easy task. We should be able to defeat the main enemy, the satan. We should be able to control our desires, to stay away from prejudice and to guide only by the rules of Allah. It is because only sincere people who will survive the temptations of Satan.

During the people’s life, war between people and Satan, desire and prejudice are happened. Allah through his word in the Quran Surah Ali Imran verse 102 said: "O you who believe! Fear Allah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.”

It hopes that every mukmin can come out from the battle with the satan, desire and prejudice, as the winner. So we meet Allah the Creator as the person who wins against a test that He gives.
