REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Resources, Rizal Ramli, said that Indonesia could be developed without having debt from foreign countries. With right policies, Indonesia economy can grow and the citizens can get benefits.

In post-crisis monetary, Indonesia airline industry fell by 60 percent. The government was asked to lower the tariff, so that the industry can raise.

“At that time, I was Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs. I opened new airline license policy and 6-7 airlines were established. Ticket prices dropped drastically and the number of passengers rose by five percent. That can be evident that to build Indonesia economy, we don’t have to use foreign debt,” he said, Wednesday (19/8).

Indonesia required public officials who have ability to understand the national problems and take actions to solve the problem. The official should not have a conflict of interest.

The high foreign debt (ULN), will suppress the balance of payments. It can cause the weakening of exchange rate against the US dollar.
